BA 362 Effective Business Writing
Improve your writing in business settings. Receive individual feedback.
This course combines a focus on culture, persuasion, and writing in organizational contexts. Understanding these relations will help you become an effective writer within international organizations.
1. A focus on writing will help you understand some of the common elements of design, structure, development, style, clarity, and editing within written American English.
2. A focus writing in organizations will help you understand some of the differences between academic writing and organizational writing and the kinds of reasoning, evidence, and visual design features effective business writers use to gain credibility with their audiences.
3. A focus on culture will help you understand how and why approaches to writing differ from one culture to another, so you can shift approaches according to your context.
4. A focus on persuasion will help you understand how writers make choices about their writing to achieve particular purposes with specific audiences within those contexts.
By the conclusion of this course, you will have produced effective emails, memoranda, resumes, letters, reports, progress reports, a business proposal, presentation slide decks, and meeting agendas and minutes. You will write as individuals and collaboratively with teams, as consultants, to bring positive change to an important UO program that serves international and U.S. students.
